横山清暉 Yokoyama Seiki (1792-1864) Japanese antique art kakejiku kakemono wall hanging scroll / Waterfall with Box RD985

横山清暉 Yokoyama Seiki (1792-1864)
A painter of the Shijo School active in the late Edo period in Japan. He was a pupil of 松村景文 Matsumura Keibun, and together with 中島来章 Nakajima Raiho, 岸連山 Kishi Renzan, and 塩川文麟 Shiokawa Bunrin, was regarded as one of the "Four Famous Heian Painters" of the late Edo period.

with signature and seal 'Seiki' 清暉

A refined hanging scroll by Yokoyama Seiki (1792–1864), an important painter of the late Edo period associated with the Maruyama–Shijō school. Seiki is celebrated for his elegant command of ink tones and his ability to express great depth with minimal brushwork. This work depicts a slender waterfall descending in a single, uninterrupted sweep — a subject that highlights Seiki’s mastery of line, rhythm, and atmospheric space. With only a few controlled strokes, he conveys both the quiet power of falling water and the serene stillness of the surrounding landscape. The composition radiates purity and restraint, embodying the essence of classical Japanese ink painting. The scroll is mounted in tasteful fabrics that complement its dignified simplicity, and it comes with a storage box. A graceful example of Edo-period literati aesthetics, suitable for both collection and interior display.
