Japanese vintage Sake bottle Sake bin Tokkuri Kayoi Tokkuri, Binbo Tokkuri, or Kashi Tokkuri V983
Kayoi Tokkuri 通い徳利 Binbo Tokkuri 貧乏徳利 Kashi Tokkuri 貸し徳利
It is thought to have been distributed from the late Edo period to the early Showa period and was used by the general public for retail use by liquor stores. Sake shops rented out Tokkuri (sake cups) and sold them to customers by filling them with the amount of sake they wanted. On the sake bottle, the name of the liquor store, the brand name, and, in the Showa period, the phone number of the store were also written. Customers would take the sake bottle with them when they went shopping, and it was a great way to advertise the store along the way.
