This Japanese hanging scroll features a refined composition of pine, bamboo, and plum—known collectively as the “Three Friends of Winter”—symbolizing resilience, integrity, and renewal. Rendered in elegant brushwork and subtle ink tones, the painting reflects the classical aesthetics of the Shijō school. Signed “Kokin” (公均) and sealed “Heikichi” (平吉), the work is attributed to Yoshida Kokin (1804–1876), a painter from Toyama Prefecture who studied under Matsumura Keibun and specialized in flower-and-bird and landscape subjects. The scroll is housed in an appraisal box by Hayakawa Segai (1880–1960), further attesting to its cultural and artistic value.
