狩野晴川院養信 Kano Seisenin Osanobu (1796-1846)
Painter of the Kano school (Edo Kano) of the Edo period. Born in Edo, the eldest son of Kano Eishin. In 1810, he was appointed to the Edo Castle and served as an official in the inner court. In 1819, at the age of 24, he became a Hokan and was named Nakatsukasa-kyo (Lord Nakatsukasa). In 1828, he inherited his father's estate upon his death and became the ninth generation of the Kano school of the Kobikicho family. In 1834, he was elevated to the rank of Hoin.

with signature 'Seisen Hogen hitsu' 晴川法眼筆 and seal 'Osanobu' 養信

This two‑panel furo‑saki byōbu features a refined gold‑leaf composition attributed to Kano Seisenin Osanobu (1796–1846), signed Seisen Hōgen hitsu (晴川法眼筆) with the seal Osanobu (養信). The paintings depict vigorous pine branches set against a radiant rising sun, a classic motif of the Edo Kano school symbolizing renewal, strength, and auspicious beginnings. The bold ink outlines and controlled brushwork reflect the disciplined elegance characteristic of Osanobu’s hand, while the gold ground enhances the depth and luminosity of the scene. Traces of former sliding‑door handles indicate that these works were originally created as fusuma paintings and later remounted as a folding screen, a practice often seen with high‑quality Kano‑school works preserved for continued appreciation. With its harmonious balance of ink, gold, and symbolic imagery, this screen stands as a distinguished example of late Edo court‑style painting.

Furosaki Byobu is a folding screen of two panels, which is placed in the corner at the upper end of the tea-making tatami mat when the tea ceremony procedure is done.
